Best Adventure

The player is immersed in an interactive story driven by exploration and problem-solving

Best AR/VR Experience

The player experiences a simulated environment that immerses them in a constructed reality (fictional or non-fictional) by stimulating one or more of their senses (most often audio/visual)

Best Arthouse

Provides a profound statement by emphasizing art as an experience or by eliciting some kind of reaction in its audience with a strong narrative or concept

Best Casual

Simpler gameplay, mobile titles, and/or puzzle titles that are fun in short intervals or more accessible to a spectrum of age groups

Best Early Access

Not necessarily from the Early Access platform, titles that are unreleased or still seeking funding with strong community endorsement (who may or may not play a role in the active development of the game)

Best Let’s Play

Titles that could also be called horror and/or comedy, they are or have potential to be played by streamers

Best Multiplayer

Provides exciting co-op gameplay, can be couch, online, or both

Best RPG

The player is immersed in the role of a character in a narrative wherein the player can take part in the character’s development and upgrade, modify, or enhance their character over time

Best Strat/Sim

Provides either or both an experience involving situational awareness and decision-making skills that will affect the narrative or environment, or an experience with a set a near-real world rules and complications wherein learning and planning play a large role

Best Tabletop

Can be played without a computer in part or entirely, often with cards or a board but not exclusively

Thanks to all the indie devs who entered! Be sure to check back here next year to enter your game. Just so you know, we have shows year round in other cities. So don’t forget to look out for our next festival to enter your game into.

Quick facts about entering

The full rules are available on the entry form, but this is some basic info to get you started.

Selection Process: The DreamHack Staff reviews all of the games submitted and considers criteria such as the following: Gameplay, Quality, Fun Factor, Technique, Design, etc.

Eligibility: You must be considered an independent developer at the time of entry. If an individual, you must be at least 18 years old.To be considered an “independent developer”, you must have minimal resources to complete the game. Examples of this are small teams, minimal funding, etc.

You must be prepared to be present and display your game for the whole festival when the Expo is open.

Perks: Each selected team will receive a complimentary 10×10 booth space within the Indie Playground in the Expo which will include one (1) table and two (2) chairs to show the game. Your game will be promoted on our site and social channels. Each team representing the game will receive 2 complimentary DreamHack 3-Day tickets to the event. Your game will be. added to our Freeplay game library (Steam only) that is setup at all DreamHack events.

You will receive a digital laurel for your category. You will have the title of Indie Playground Selection in your respective genre. Lastly, you will have a 15 minute session to present your game on the Indie Stage. If you entered but weren’t selected, you are eligible for a discounted booth space on the floor.
